Lifeguarding, America, PAX and Baltimore Comic Con

Sun Oct 11, 2009, 4:26 PM
Been a while since I updated my journal.... not sure if there is really much point either, it sucks but I hardly ever read other people's journal's these days, I'm usually not on the computer long enough... or at least not on DA long enough, feel bad because I haven't put any art up in 10 months, so it just makes me feel down being on here looking at all this awesome stuff and I'm hardly ever contributing to it :) :/

Anyway, since my last update I've done a bit of stuff.... art and life wise. I'm currently in the states, right now, on the free computer in the basement of a HI Hostel in Baltimore to be exact. Came here 2 days ago so that I could go to the Baltimore City Comic Con, was great, met a whole lot of great Artists and Writers, went to a bunch of panels; some of which I'm sorry to say I was falling asleep in, SORRY! I was really tired, wanted to listen to everything but I'm just so fatigued.

Today just before the 'Image United' panel started, I had a little conversation with Robert Kirkman at the front stage on the mic, was cool, we just talked about nothing, apparently his beard has never been itchy, which I am very jealous of. This little chat ended with me being told to stop by his booth, which I did, and was given a 1-in-100 limited edition variant cover version of his new comic series being drawn by *WyA and inked by Todd McFarlane, very cool.

Also purchased a few awesome pieces of art one by the great ~JasonHoward; which, when I get home and setup, will be scanning and doing my best at colouring. Speaking of pieces of art I bought, [link] is now mine.

Been in America since mid-June, playing Lifeguard at the Henry Kaufman Campgrounds in Pearl River, just outside New York. That was a lot of fun, met some great people and drew a whole bunch of pictures.... well.... not that many, but a few, many more to be done when I get home. After being a lifeguard, went to DeKalb, just outside Chicago and caught up with my sisters, during my stay there I packed up and went to Seattle for a week to attend the Penny Arcade Expo, which was awesome, had a chance to play Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age: Origins, Brutal Legend, Saboteur, Hack/Slash and a bunch of other neat games that haven't come out yet.

So, I'm only in America for 5 days, which is great, except that 3.5 of those days I'm on a bus headed for LA.... Really, REALLY should have chosen the Plane option. When I get back to NZ I'll be in Auckland for 9 days, during which I'll be attending Armageddon, so that'll be fun....

anyhow..... I guess this was just a quick update, I'll see about getting some art up in a few weeks, till then, enjoy :)

This, that, and a few other things

Sun Dec 21, 2008, 1:25 AM
Merry Christmas people! Or something like that anyway... tis the season and I probably won't have another Journal entry this year.... maybe, and I thought I'd upload a few things from the travelling I did a few years back that I found lying around with all my other piles of stuff I need to organize and finish :)

I have been without a computer that would allow me to do any colouring for AGES now, I've been so procastinationally busy this last year that I haven't really had the time to sit down a dedicate myself with what really matters, putting pretty colours on awesome art.... or drawing stuff... I bought myself some nice big art boards back in October while I was at Armageddon up in Auckland, so maybe that'll be my new years resolution that I tried to make a few months back; to, every night after work, dedicate myself to an hour or two of creativity, be that drawing, colouring or writing or whatever, I'd really like it if I could do that

I've applied to go to Camp America next year, just bought a new scanner today so that I could 1: scan and upload the new pics in my gallery and too 2: Scan my Character reference sheets for their site, I couldn't get my hands on a friends one around here, and before last Thursday I had no money (except savings), so the last few weeks they've been expecting me to get them up there and I haven't had the equipment to get it done! Now I have and it is done! or.... it will be once I finish this journal ;) I hope the experience will be fun, I'm really looking forward to it.... if I'm accepted that is :)

Anyway... today I went down to the Strand Office Supplies store to see if they had any markers, I'd like to try my hand at doing basic marker work then inking some pieces of art, it's interested me for a while now, and they are the only place in town that I think would sell them... unfortunately they were closed.... so I'll have to try tomorrow :)

I thikn that's enough of a rant from me for tonight..... I think I'll finish uploading these Character refs to Camp America and then sit down to a little...... Dead Space? Maybe... or perhaps some Mortal Kombat vs. The DC Universe.... OR Mirrors Edge, that's an awesome game.... yeh.... one of those I think,

Catch ya,

Luke Batt.

The DA Update

Fri Jul 11, 2008, 3:20 AM
hmmmmm, I gotta say, I really like the new updates for the DA site.... but it makes it so that the only thing that I was really using from the subscription was being able to see who had visited my site, and having the friends list on the front page.... that one kinda helped me visit people's places quicker.... but overall not really necessary I guess.

!! *closes eyes; scratches chin* should I subscribe again? or maybe wait until I have more art to put up..... *rubs eyes* I dunno.
